You will want to give your young explorer plenty of places to store their toys and treasures, as well as keeping plenty of floor space available for play time. Aside from drawers and chests, it's often helpful to look into multi-level shelving units that give your child a place to put toys and books, while affording you higher display shelves for keepsakes and special memories.
Let me start by saying that there is no law that says the kid's décor you use in a girl's room has to be pink and frilly. Truth is most girls want to express more of their natural selves in the décor in their rooms. If your daughter plays sports let her decorate with a sports theme it can be sporty and yet still be feminine. If she is into playing an instrument then by all means put scales on the walls.
Never underestimate the importance of the right bedding when contemplating your plan for your kids' decor. Children are playful, inquisitive, and fun little people. Shouldn't their room reflect that? Consider your child's personality before committing to a theme, and you're sure to come up with a look that they'll love for years to come. Remember-not every girl is going to want fairy princesses on her bedspread, and there is nothing wrong with a wild animal theme for your toddler (even if his dad really loves dinosaurs instead!) It's their room, and you want them to be happy with it. And there is nothing in the kids' décor rulebook that says that the bedspread, lampshades, and curtains all have to have the exact same pattern. Pick a general color scheme, and feel free to play with shades and textures until you come up with a look that you both love.
