Building cabinet beds is an excellent way to create privacy in a shared room while creating a unique kids decor. If space allows, two cabinet beds can be placed in opposite corners of the room, giving each child their own "hide-out" to sleep and play in. Plans for cabinet beds are available online, but a simpler solution is to use tall bookshelves to create a "room" with the bed inside. Replace the paper backing on ready-to-assemble bookshelves with medium density fiberboard, position the shelves around the bed, and bolt the shelves together. A door or drapery can be added for extra privacy, if needed, and the shelves add much needed storage space. The interior of the bed cabinet can be painted to suit each child's taste in kid's decor. With the addition of a fold down, wall-mounted desk, floating shelves, wall art or wall baskets, and each cabinet can be customized for study, play, or just hanging out.
Never underestimate the importance of the right bedding when contemplating your plan for your kids' decor. Children are playful, inquisitive, and fun little people. Shouldn't their room reflect that? Consider your child's personality before committing to a theme, and you're sure to come up with a look that they'll love for years to come. Remember-not every girl is going to want fairy princesses on her bedspread, and there is nothing wrong with a wild animal theme for your toddler (even if his dad really loves dinosaurs instead!) It's their room, and you want them to be happy with it. And there is nothing in the kids' décor rulebook that says that the bedspread, lampshades, and curtains all have to have the exact same pattern. Pick a general color scheme, and feel free to play with shades and textures until you come up with a look that you both love.
If you must you can decorate the room with butterflies and ladybugs and such but why not go for something much more original. That is what kid's décor is all about. You can design the room to fit the child. A mother knows that some girls will use Barbie for target practice. So why would you shove the outdated ideas of femininity on them? If its spaceships she wants let her have them and make sure the ship has a female captain. You can compromise on the borders and curtains in any case. Just be imaginative and open minded then help them to create a space that is uniquely their own.
